Frank Melchior was born and raised in the Seattle area and now lives in
Edmonds. His interest in photography began when he served four years in the
Marines just out of high school in 1972. Frank traveled most of the world
with the
Marines and took photos with his Olympus 35mm film SLR of just about
everything he saw. Fresh out of the Marines, he joined the US Postal
Service in 1977
and enjoyed spending days off taking photos with his Canon SLR. About three
years ago, Frank bought his first digital SLR and that's when he developed a
real passion for photography. He joined several on-line clubs such as
DPChallenge.com, Photo.net, Worth1000.com, and Betterphoto.com. Those clubs
became his
school for hard knocks, as photographers from all over the globe would
critique his work, and he learned, got better and still is learning.
Frank has won many awards in contests he has entered and always has work
shown at the Edmonds Arts Festival each year where his photos sell quite
well.
Frank has an interest in portraits as well as architecture and landscapes.
He
has shot a few weddings this last summer for very happy clients.
"Today, in the age of digital cameras, powerful editing software, and an
endless array of storage capacity, it seems a lot easier to enjoy my hobby.
Photography is fun. It allows me to freeze moments in time to share with my
friends and family. It's a way of seeing. It is a way of understanding the
environment that surrounds us. Photography allows me to record an
experience.
Photography captures time."
